Dr Sylvia Anie

Dr Anie is the Director of the Social Transformation Programmes Division at the Commonwealth Secretariat and is responsible for the Gender, Education and Health Sections.

 The Social Transformation Programmes Division works towards the advancement of the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs).  It achieves this through the work of the three cross-cutting sections of Education, Gender and Health.

Additionally Dr Sylvia Anie has responsibility for organising the following Commonwealth’s Ministers Meetings:-
• The Commonwealth Education Ministers Meeting (CCEM)
• The Commonwealth Women’s Affairs Ministers Meeting (WAMM)
• The Commonwealth Health Ministers Meeting (CHMM)

Prior to joining the Commonwealth Secretariat, Dr Sylvia Anie worked at The Ghana AIDS Commission under the Office of the President of Ghana from 2001-2010.  She worked as the Director of the Policy Planning, Research, Monitoring and Evaluation, initiating and guiding the response to HIV and AIDS.  Dr Anie has made significant contributions to scientific knowledge and holds the patent for an invention carried out at The Medical School, University of Manchester on Magnetic Resonance Imaging. 

She is a Fellow of the Royal Society of Medicine, UK and holds the status of Chartered Scientist with the Royal Society of Chemistry, UK.

For over 20 years her work has included policy and strategic development, research, monitoring and evaluation, partnerships and advocacy.
