Objectives
- To provide a platform for Commonwealth ministers to share experiences and deepen the current global debates around financing gender equality Review global trends in gender equality as they impact upon the Commonwealth;
- To review implementation of the Commonwealth Plan of Action for Gender Equality 2005-2015(PoA), and to discuss and agree its Monitoring and Evaluation Framework
- To agree messages on financing gender equality to both the Finance Ministers Meeting (FMM) in September 2007 and the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting (CHOGM) to be held in Uganda from 23-25 November 2007
- To strengthen strategic partnerships within the Commonwealth and with partner organisations to support the implementation of the PoA in regard to The Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination against Women; the Beijing Platform for Action; United Nations Security Council Regulation 1325 and MDGs
- To use the Uganda context to illustrate the challenges and opportunities for promoting gender equality and women’s rights
Plan of Action for Gender Equality 2005-2015
Women's Affairs Ministers who met in Fiji Islands from 30 May - 2 June 2004, agreed Gender Mainstreaming in four critical areas for Commonwealth action to advance gender equality.
