Mr. Ahmed Mahloof - Chair of the Asia Region
Ahmed Mahloof, 27, has been working with the Ministry of Youth and Sports as an Assistant Programme Officer since 2000. He got promoted to an Assistant Director in December 2007.
He was crowned with the National Youth Award in 2006, in recognition of the work he does in the youth and sports field. He has participated in 28 international youth programmes in different countries.
He is an avid sportsman, having played for the under 16, under 19 and the under 23 national football teams, in the first division for three years and also played in the Asian club championship in Japan. He is an Asian football confederation "C" licensed coach, coaching kids and some clubs.
Mahloof was selected as a member of the Commonwealth Election Observation team for the presidential and parliamentary elections in Sierra Leone in August 2007.
On 20 January 2008, Mahloof was appointed as a Member of Parliament in the Republic of Maldives by H. E. President Maumoon Abdhul Gayoom. He was appointed as the President’s People’s Special Majlis, which is the parliament formed to revise the constitution.
“The most critical youth issues in the Maldives are drug abuse and unemployment and gang fighting. Such issues couldn't be solved just only by the government. The whole society and the government should work together to achieve the goals.
It is all of our duty to stand up and combat these issues. Fight for our participation in the decision making level and policy making level. Fight for our participation in the development process. Always remember if there is a will, there is a way.”
