Pretty Kajal Peeharry

Pretty Kajal Peeharry, 24, was elected as a RYC for Mauritius in August 2007. She holds a BSc (Hons) in Social Sciences with specialisation in Sociology from the University of Mauritius. She currently works as School Social Worker in the Ministry of Education and Human Resources.

Pretty presently serves as the Deputy Secretary-General of the Youth Network of Mauritius, an organisation which is involved in fighting for the welfare; empowerment; education; and protection of young people.

She is the Deputy Team leader of the Regional Youth Task Force of the NATReSA (The National Agency for the Treatment and Rehabilitation of Substance Abusers), an NGO founded by the government to combat all issues relating to drug abuse in Mauritius.

Pretty has participated in a myriad of training programmes including, Youth Leadership and Club Management; Economic, Social & Cultural Rights; Youth Networking & Partnership in Substance Abuse Prevention and Leadership; and Outreach work with Injecting Drug Users.

She is also the Secretary and Teacher of the Riviere Des Creoles Hindi School offering voluntarily courses in Hindi language to students of the locality. Pretty is fluent in French, English and Hindi.
