Profile:

Anastarcia HuylerMy name is Anastarcia Nicholette Huyler. I am an active advocate for youth in Governance and a student at the College of the Bahamas were I am pursing an associate of arts degree in Mass Communications. At the College I am a member of the Campus Life Council and Emerging Leaders Club.

After my tenure at The College of the Bahamas, I plan to pursue a Bachelor of Arts Degree in International Law & Political Science. I am currently a member of the Bahamas National Youth Council and the Director of Business Affairs from the Youth Ambassadors for Positive Living, a group that promotes positive living in all aspects of life while educating young people about HIV/AIDS & STI's.

My love for public speaking allowed me to participate in the National Debates in both 2003-2004 and 2005-2006, and in 2004 I was awarded the overall Best Speaker for the entire series. I also won Best Overall Speaker again in the first round of the debates in 2006. I love to read and act and I've participated in several local productions.

At thirteen, I wrote, directed and acted in "Naughty Johnny" a re-make of the Bahamian ring-play. After the play, I wrote several other short stories, plays and poems which I hope to someday publish. I love the arts and I play the steel pan.

I am a Christian and a member of The Pro Cathedral of Christ the King Anglican Church, where I serve as a member of the St. Ambrose Altar Servers Guild, Dance Group and Youth Group. In 2003, Christ the King gave me the opportunity of traveling to Antigua for the Provincial Youth Gathering. Here I met hundreds of young persons from all over the Caribbean and countries around the world. While here I discovered my desire to do missionary work and my love of learning of other people and cultures.

It was this love that inspired me to become an advocate for youth in governance and a community server. In 2006 I traveled to the Global Young Leaders Conference in Washington D.C. & New York City where I presented a speech at the United Nations on Women's Rights on behalf of the Human Rights Commission. Since then God has continue to provide me with opportunities, the most recent becoming the Regional Youth Caucus, Bahamas Commonwealth Youth Ambassador and Deputy Regional Chair.

I am a past first place Most Distinguished Jr. Achiever and was awarded Most Outstanding Student in Grand Bahama 2006 where I was placed on the Local Hero Wall of Fame.

I attribute each and every accomplishment to God who makes all things possible. I know that without him I am nothing.
