Regional Advisory Board

CYP is accountable to four structures of governance. One of these levels is the Regional Advisory Boards (RAB) of the respective region, made up of senior government officials from each member country and a representative of young people.

Regional Director, Mr. Henry Charles addresses the opening session of RAB 2005 in St Kitts and Nevis. The youth representative is the duly nominated Regional Youth Caucus (RYC) representative who participates with full rights, following a decision of the 2003 CYMM in Botswana. As such Regional Youth Caucus (RYC) meetings are part of the Regional Advisory Boards. The RAB/RYCs identify priority youth issues for consideration by CYMM.

Decisions of the RAB are filtered upward to other essential governance levels of CYP including the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meetings (CHOGM) which consider the development needs of the Commonwealth and set mandates for action and the Commonwealth Youth Ministers Meetings (CYMM) which in turn consider CHOGM mandates, identify and prioritise strategic directions, and instruct the Commonwealth Secretariat (ComSec) to undertake programme development and implementation activities through the CYP.

The Regional Advisory Board is convened biennially. The Report and decisions of the RAB 2005 which was held in October 2005 in St. Kitts and Nevis will be reviewed at the 2007 Meeting.
