Mrs. Desirée Natasha Flanders-Harrigan
Mrs. Desirée Natasha Flanders-Harrigan is best described as a sociable, trustworthy, dependable individual. Born and raised on the beautiful island of Tortola, British Virgin Islands, Mrs. Flanders-Harrigan has always had the desire to serve. She has been employed since 2004 with the Government of the British Virgin Islands at the Social Development Department within the Community Development Division as a Community Development Officer. Some of her duties within the division include placing identified clients in the Job Placement Programme. This programme focuses on finding employment for unattached youths. In addition to the Job Placement Programme, Mrs. Flanders-Harrigan is also involved with the Spotlight Programme. This programme focuses on life skills needed to survive in her society such as sewing, baking, gardening etc. Mrs. Flanders-Harrigan is also the Executive Officer for the department’s Big Brothers Big Sisters Mentorship Programme of the British Virgin Islands. She assists in coordinating activities that helps foster relationships between mentors and mentees. She enjoys being a part of this programme while seeing the fulfillment on the faces of the boys and girls.
Mrs. Flanders-Harrigan has been associated with many social clubs and organizations within the community. She is currently an active member of the Leo Club of Tortola since 2006. Mrs. Flanders-Harrigan served as Vice President (2007-2008) and President (2009-2010.) Serving in these capacities has enabled her to further develop and enhance her leadership skills. As a wife and mother of two, she has interest in youth development, particularly the role of society in Human Development. As the Regional Youth Caucus Representative of the British Virgin Islands, Mrs. Flanders-Harrigan has the desire to honestly and effectively communicate the concerns of young people in her country and to work with local, regional and international organizations in finding ways to address these issues. She believes that the continued investment in the youth of her territory will enhance the future growth and development of the beautiful British Virgin Islands.
