Kamal Ghadafi, 26, has been actively involved as a youth activist in Brunei Darussalam for the past years and will continue for many years to come.
He has held many appointments in the field of student leadership as First Secretary, Head Prefect, Vice President at Prince Hj Al-Muhtadee Billah College, and many appointments in other clubs, associations and organisations.
He is also the Founder and President of Urban Touches Entertainment, an entertainment company which promotes the talents of youths in Brunei Darussalam. They also do charity work, and in the future will implement programmes through music that promotes healthy living for the youths in Brunei Darussalam.
As the representative for Brunei Darussalam, he works closely with the government through the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sports, Brunei Youth Council and the CYP Asia Centre. He also works closely with his contacts and friends in the Malaysian Youth Council, World Assembly of Youths, All China Youth Federation and the CAYC.
“In Brunei Darussalam, if critical issues such as employment, education, drugs, loitering needs to be curb, it is important that the government, together with youth organisations work together in addressing these issues”.
Kamal’s hobbies include writing articles on youth issues for the national newspaper (Borneo Bulletin), making music, playing the drums, sports and going online.
1. When were you elected as a RYC? Educational background/Occupation
I was elected as RYC in April 2007 by the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sports due to my outstanding work for the youths. I finished my college years in 2002 and currently I am working at the Brunei International Airport and also doing my own entertainment business.
What are the critical issues facing youth in your country?
In Brunei Darussalam, unemployment, drug abuse, HIV/AIDS and so forth are the main concern.
3 What policies/initiatives are being put in place to help combat these?
Many initiatives are being created to curb these issues, many programmes and seminars are being held by the government, National Youth Council, NGO’s and youth activists like myself. Brunei will have a National Youth Congress where Government officials, members of NGOs and the National Youth Council will discuss much of the issues that concerns youths.
4. What is your message to the youth of the Commonwealth?
For the youths of commonwealth, never give up in your life struggles, dreams comes from within and facing life as it is, Is our duty and making the future better for the next generations are also our sacred duty. “Work hard, Study hard and fight for your generation.”
