What are the critical issues facing youth in your country?
The main issues that the youth of Pakistan are facing today are:
Unemployment - In Pakistan the percentage of unemployed youth is growing every year. Institutions are not providing the competent human capital to industries. Although there are jobs avaliable in the market but there is dearth of professionals and relevant qualified people.
Lack of Career Counselling Centres - In our country there is hardly any career counselling centres. Young people are so confused about their careers, especially youths from rural areas, they are unaware of anticipated needs of the market and they start studying without any goals and objectives for the future.
Involvment of youth in drug addictions and criminal activities - there is a high percentage of youth who are involved in criminal activities, but no steps have been taken by the governemt to combat this.
Lack of opportunities for improvment of skills or continued learning programmes.
Lack of funding for Youth Development Schemes.
Frustration among youths.
What policies/initiatives are being put in place to combat these?
Few initiatives are being taken by Governments and NGO's but these are not enough to address all the issues mentioned above. A Youth Internship programme was initiated by the government and is very successful, through this programme, ten thousand youths are being employed by different organisations. A National Youth Policy was developed but is still yet to be implemented.
What is your message to the youth of the Commonwealth?
My message for the youth of the Commonwealth is STRUGGLE, STRUGGLE and STRUGGLE. Because life without struggle means you are no more in the world. Listen to your own heart rather than listening and relying on others to tell you what you will do next.
