Thembile Mkhize

I was born on the 16th of April, 1985. I was elected as a RYC in March 2010.I am originally from Durban Lamont Ville South Africa. I studied fashion design as I quiet passionate about clothes; now I am based in Johannesburg I am currently working as an Assistant Sourcing Manager in the retail industry –the company is Edcon; I am passionate about working with the youth trying to bring change to the mind-set of our generation, I am involved with a SAYC a non-profitable organisation which deal with youth issues among the youths such as;

· Drugs and alcohol Abuse, being prone to pre-pressure

· Unemployment and difficulty in accessing the black economic empowerment

· fight against HIV and related illness

· corruption

· accessibility to latest information

The NYDA is working with the youth to try to improve the access to the black empowerment together with the help of government. There has been a lot of involvement from the government to improve free the accessibility to good health to all at low cost, there is a new initiative of a health care policy the country aims to start rolling out in 2012, also not forgetting the improvement of ARV distribution to HIV/aids patience . The increase of support groups which is an initiative from the government. The right to information, libraries with internet access, and where work sectors our DTI together with government has increased the indaba conferences for most sectors; I do believe a lot can be done in tertiary and high school level to groom growing kids. On crime –there is more patrolling on the roads, this was strongly enforced with 2010 hosting of the world cup, the level of corruption has been stable.

My message to young people is that they must believe in themselves, just about anything is possible if you put your mind to it. Education is key as it opens a lot of doors….it’s our time….we the youth can make that change.
