Ms Pretty Kajal Peeharry is a youth advocate holding a BSc (Hons) in Social Sciences with specialization in Sociology and a Master in Human Resource Studies from the University of Mauritius. She works as a Secondary Educator teaching sociology in a state school in the south of Mauritius.

Her involvement in social and youth work dates back to the year 2000 and she reckons more than 6 years experience working with children and families living in difficulties and needing special attention. She believes in doing all that she can for those less fortunate. She enjoys working with children and youth as she has been learning a lot from them. Her areas of inertest are HIV/AIDS, Drugs and Substance Abuse Prevention, Youth Leadership and Club Management.

Pretty agrees that the government and NGOs are doing a great job in fighting poverty, HIV/AIDS, Substance abuse… but still feels that the youth in Mauritius are not motivated enough to be part of the team in this struggle. Today the number of graduates is increasing so fast, but youth participation in this great endeavor is very low. Hence, it’s high time that the youth be empowered not only with academic knowledge but with opportunities to experience the enthusiasm, pleasure and passion in working with the group of society who need us.
