Gyra Nataile Rita Nibourette
I was elected in March 2009 after I was re elected as the Vice Chairperson of the Seychelles National Youth Council. I hold a Diploma in Secondary Education and I am currently working as the Senior Human Resource & Budget Management Assistant for the Seychelles National Youth Council. Like any country Seychelles also is encountering problems with young people. Problems such as drug abuse, delinquent behaviours, prostitution and young people refusing to work.
The National Youth Policy was amended and was sent to the cabinet for approval last year. In the policy areas for action such as employment, Training, Health & Welfare, HIV AIDS, Environment, Culture, Aspiration 2013, Morality & Spirituality, volunteerism are what we are concentrating on. We are working in close collaboration with churches/ Social Affairs/ Police/ Drugs and Alcohol Council to combat drugs and prostitution and encouraging young people to engage in activity to refrain from being delinquents and an employment initiative programme has started last year within the council giving young people the skills to have their own job.
As youth of the Commonwealth I believe that we should show to the world that as young people we have so much to offer and together we are ready to face the challenges.
