Tripartite meeting of Teaching/Public Service Commissions of Asian member countries Location: Bandar Seri Begawan, Brunei Darussalam

Date: 11-16 November 2007

The meeting convening senior education officials and Teaching/Public Service Commissions of Asian Commonwealth members is the third in a series of regional meetings being conducted throughout the Commonwealth by the Commonwealth Secretariat to identify issues and concerns with teacher mobility, retention, supply and demand in Asian member countries of the Commonwealth; share among Asian countries -- positive strategies for improving the quality and status of teachers; expand and deepen the information about the Commonwealth Teacher Recruitment Protocol and ascertain how Asian countries may best use it as a good practice in teacher retention.

Workshop on Access to Education for Disadvantaged Groups.

Location: Kampala, Uganda.

Date: 19-21 November 2007

The workshop on Achieving the Goals in education: Access for Disadvantaged Groups is part of the Commonwealth People’s Forum, pre-CHOGM activities.

It will create opportunities for dialogue between civil society, academia, government technical officers, and education funding agencies on priority education issues in the commonwealth concerning access, and also encourage various education experts with diverse backgrounds to develop an action plan on the way forward. Participants will look at ways to strengthen and diversify education delivery strategies targeting disadvantaged children with special learning needs, those in conflict areas, in poor communities, those denied education due to social/cultural barriers, gender and affected by HIV/AIDS

Workshop on HIV & AIDS Education in Social Transformation

As part of the Commonwealth People’s Forum, pre-CHOGM activities (in collaboration with Commonwealth Foundation).
