The genesis of CHEC was in an industrial relations experiment from 1945 onwards linking human health well-being and a productive pattern of living. The principles established were incorporated into new national legislation for primary and secondary industries in Britain and New Zealand. A community health/agroeconomic/social ecological group embracing 37 disciplines formulated a framework for a Commonwealth wide human ecology pilot project.
