CFTC 2006 Regional Consultative Meetings

Asia: 15-17 February 2006, Malaysia

Pacific: 8-11 March 2006, Fiji Islands

Africa: 29-31 March 2006, Botswana

The biennial consultations with Primary Contact Points will continue the dialogue with member countries to sharpen the focus of the Secretariat's development assistance. The proposed objectives and outcomes of the regional consultations are

Objectives

  • review and assess the impact of the Commonwealth's development programmes and projects especially those funded by the CFTC at the national and regional levels;
  • identify challenges, constraints and lessons learned in the implementation of national and regional CFTC funded programmes of assistance since July 2004; 
  • identify future national and regional developmental priorities;
  • review and assess the modalities for the delivery of CFTC funded technical co-operation; 
  • brief Governments on the shift to incorporate results-based management and performance reporting into Secretariat programmes, and discuss ways to engage Governments more directly in monitoring and evaluation of CFTC programmes and
  • review and refine the roles of the CFTC Primary Contact Points (PCPs)/Divisional Points of Contact (POCs).

Outcomes

  • determine the likely strategic focus of the development programmes in the next Operational Plan including the CFTC funded technical co-operation programme for the period July 2006 to June 2008
  • development of Commonwealth national and regional technical co-operation frameworks for the period July 2006 to June 2008.
