Education Good Practice Awards

Forty-nine submissions have been received for the Commonwealth Education Good Practice Awards 2009. By the deadline for these awards, which was 31 October, submissions had been made from 14 Commonwealth countries, including 11 entries from six small states.

Twenty-two entries were sent in through ministries of education and civil society organisations in Malaysia and Nigeria – 11 from each country. The remaining entries were submitted from ministries and organisations in Botswana, Brunei Darussalam, Cyprus, Ghana, India, Mauritius, Pakistan, Seychelles, Tanzania, The Gambia, Uganda and the United Kingdom.

The winners of the Education Awards will be announced in Malaysia in June 2009 at the 17th Conference of Commonwealth Education Ministers.

Twenty-four submissions chosen for second round

In the opening round of adjudication of the Commonwealth Education Good Practice Awards 2009 - held on 19 November 2008 at the Royal Overseas League, London - a 10-member panel of Commonwealth diplomats and civil society leaders selected twenty-four from the original 49 submissions to go through to the next round in January 2009.

Tan Sri Dr Zulkarnain Awang, Secretary-General of the Ministry of Education, Malaysia (pictured), chaired the panel which assessed the submissions. By the closing date of October 31, 2008, forty-nine submissions from a total of 14 countries,  had been received. The adjudication process will continue on January 15, 2009 when Adjudicators from Africa, Asia, the Pacific, Caribbean and the United Kingdom will select the Finalists by a video-conference coordinated by the Ministry of Education, Malaysia.
